A Nova Labs Robotics "BrainStorm Troopers" team member from Reston, Virginia, asks a question during an Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) announcement, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. Nine companies will be able to bid on delivering science and technology payloads for NASA, as one of the first steps toward long-term scientific study and human exploration of the Moon and eventually Mars. These services include payload integration and operations, launching from Earth and landing on the surface of the Moon.
Students from robotics teams in the area participated in the event. NASA sponsors robotics competitions, which are national engineering contests that immerse students in the world of engineering and team them with engineers from businesses, universities and research institutions, where they get a hands-on, inside look at engineering.
