At the World War II Memorial, NASA astronaut Jack Fischer talks with veterans who traveled to Washington, DC, with the Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight on Nov. 4, 2017. Fischer, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force, shared a photo from this event and wrote, "Few things can compare to the honor of meeting WWII, Korea and Vietnam vets today--thank you for your sacrifices to keep us all free."
In a Veterans Day message from the International Space Station, Expedition 53 Commander Randy Bresnik, a retired Marine Corps colonel, Flight Engineers Mark Vande Hei, a retired Army colonel, and Flight Engineer Joe Acaba, a former Marine reservist, paid tribute to veterans who have served the United States.Â
