May 30

It’s getting late in the season to forage for fiddleheads in the wild, but you may still be able to find a few of the furled fronds. The new growth of all species of ferns emerges as curled shoots, which will unfurl into full fronds as they grow. Some are edible when harvested at the early stage shown in this photo, and can be prepared and served just like asparagus.
